Last month, during Clean Sport Week, we showed Grenade around our labs that help keep athletes clean. The use of performance-enhancing drugs, now known as doping, goes back to the beginning of sport itself.
We understand now that doping not only opposes the spirit and integrity of sport, but also poses a danger to the athletes themselves. As science has moved forward, we are well placed to tackle this issue head on, which is what the Informed-Sport and Informed-Choice programmes aim to help with.
“No one wants to consume products that may contain banned substances that could be harmful to their health and well-being. Being Informed-Sport certified provides consumers with a level of trust.”
Currently, under the Informed-Sport and Informed-Choice programmes, we certify 225 brands and over 1,000 products globally.
We’ve been involved in testing products for banned substances for nearly 20 years and our Informed Sport programme was developed over ten years ago as a way to signal to elite and amateur athletes, using our logos, whether the sports nutrition products they bought had undergone testing for banned substances.
What exactly does that testing entail? That’s what we helped the team at Grenade understand.
Becoming Informed-Sport-certified is a process that includes certification, post-certification testing and blind testing. Read more all about this testing process over on the Grenade blog or take a lab tour along with Grenade’s team in their video from our Sport and Specialised Analytical Services labs.
